So, I finally got around to watching the Lost episode last week with Ben Linus’s life on the island and his life as a school teacher in the alternate timeline. As I was watching, I remember two instances where IVR would have been helpful for Ben in the show.
For those of you who have seen the episode last week, you may remember when alternate timeline Ben is being told by Principal Reynolds that he cannot attend History Club for the week as he was being assigned to Detention duty. Later in the episode, we see Ben receive a visit from one of the History Club students, who wonders why he was not available at History Club for that day.
Well, if Ben had an IVR hosting account, he could’ve come up with a quick application on one of the school computers or his own laptop and made an IVR outbound call to each of his History Club student to let them know that History Club has been cancelled for the week. Instead, each of those students probably ended up wasting 15 minutes of their time sitting in History Club wondering where Ben was.
Later in the episode, we see island Ben explaining his motive for killing Jacob and that he’s only following the smoke monster because he’s the only one that’ll have him. So, it seems poor lonely Ben just wants to feel needed. Well, an IVR application can do this too. There are IVR applications that I have encountered that let their users know that they’re important and needed for their jobs. So, perhaps an IVR application could have been used to solve some of Ben’s emotional issues.
Just some other random IVR thoughts while watching Lost.
