SRGS+XML is a grammar format for use with speech recognition technology that allows a programmer to specify a list of words that the speech recognition engine will identify. Once the speech recognition engine identifies the callers’ utterance, the SRGS+XML grammars will match the spoken word to a previously defined list of words, patterns in which those words may occur, and/or spoken language of each word. Matching words or patterns are then utilized to indicate user input.
Developers use SRGS+XML grammar formats in conjunction with VoiceXML to create speech enable voice applications that collect data from callers via spoken words. The W3C created the Speech Recognition Grammar Specification as a means to program speech recognition using open standard protocols that are executed in conjunction with VoiceXML IVR platforms.
