Speech recognition is used by VoiceXML interactive voice response (IVR) developers to automate calls by recognizing speech as input. Grammars must be created to match a caller’s utterance with a word in order to properly act on a spoken command. A grammar element specifies a permissible vocabulary for user interaction and an inline grammar is a list of phrases and subgrammars included within the grammar element. A developer can create a speech enabled IVR application by defining any number of inline grammars using SRGS syntax.
