The paragraph tag tells the TTS engine to change the prosody element to reflect the end of a paragraph, regardless of the surrounding punctuation. Nesting within the paragraph element specifies that the particular block of TTS should be read out in paragraph structure. The xml:lang attribute specifies the language and locale information of the VoiceXML document. If omitted, it will inherit this value from the document hierarchy, or ultimately from the platform default, which equates to "en-us".
