Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated dialing allows users to place an outbound call within their existing phone network using two or three digit codes instead of the typical seven or ten-digit codes dictated by the North American Number Plan. These short telephone numbers typically connect users to various public services, including but not limited to emergency services, directory assistance services, and traffic and transportation services. Abbreviated dialing codes typically start with the numbers 2-9, making them brief and easily memorized. The most popular abbreviated dialing arrangements are referred to as N11 codes, which consist of three numbers, the last two being ones.
