from the Plum Voice IVR Glossary
In computer terms, download is used as a verb and it indicates that one system is receiving data from another. On computer networks, the systems exchanging data are either local or remote systems. Local systems are typically personal or business computers, whereas remote systems include web servers, FTP servers, and email servers. The inverse of downloading is uploading, which refers to the sending of data from a remote to a local system. Downloading is the opposite of streaming in that streaming consists of data that is received incrementally and displayed immediately upon arrival, where as downloaded data is stored semi-permanently or permanently on a hard drive.
