Transcription

The term, transcription, in software refers to software that is able to convert human speech into a text transcript. This is integrated within the field of natural language processing, and is typically defined as automatic speech recognition (ASR). Transcription software can occur as completely automated solutions or could simply be software that allows spoken words into a text transcript. Transcription can come both as software and as a service. If the user is able to run an entire transcription by themselves on a personal computer or server, that is defined as software, where as the term transcription is defined as any ASR functionality that requires integration with a service provider.
