Transport Layer

Transport Layer

In network architecture, the transport layer is responsible for ensuring the transparent transfer of data between end users. The transport layer also provides data transfer capabilities to the upper layers as well. The transport layer provides end-to-end communication capabilities for applications within the layered network architecture. The various services provided by the transport layer include data stream support, reliability, flow control, and multiplexing. The most popular transport protocol is the Transmission Control protocol that is used for connection-oriented transmission. Network architects can program the transport layer to perform many functions by establishing a transport layer protocol.
