Markup Language

Markup Language

Markup language is an editing system that allows users to create structured applications by syntactically distinguishing edits to a program from original content. The edits are typically not displayed in the version of text visible to the end-user. VoiceXML (VXML) is the standard markup language used to develop voice applications utilizing automatic speech recognition (ASR) or text-to-speech synthesis (TTS). VXML allows applications to be produced and distributed in a manner that can be commonly recognized by a voice browser. Programmers can use VXML to develop applications that automate any call center or business function typically performed over the phone. The universal standards for VoiceXML set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium make it possible for VXML applications to be interpreted and run on any system that is VXML certified.
